The agreement between you and OwnBetter Limited when you use ownbetter.co.nz. Written to be read: if anything here is unclear, ask us.
By creating an account or using ownbetter.co.nz, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you use OwnBetter for a business, a trust or another person, you confirm you are allowed to agree on their behalf.
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you before it takes effect; carrying on using the service afterwards means you accept the new terms.
OwnBetter brings together public information about your properties with what you tell us, and helps you compare and act on the costs of owning them. The service is free for homeowners. Some products, such as council property files and reports, are paid for and priced before you order.
Public information comes from the registers listed on our data sources page. We take care with it, but we do not create it and cannot promise it is complete, current or correct. Estimates — savings, values, capacity — are estimates, and we say what they rest on.
We are improving the service all the time. Features may change, and some are released to a few people before everybody.
We provide information and comparisons, not personalised financial, legal, insurance or tax advice. Before refinancing, switching insurance or making another financial decision, consider getting advice from a licensed financial adviser. Advisers you choose to hear from through OwnBetter are responsible for the advice they give.
When you ask for offers or quotes, independent advisers, lenders, retailers and trades respond. They are not part of OwnBetter, and any agreement you make with one is between you and them, on their terms. Providers may pay us for introductions; that never changes which options we show you or the order they appear in.
Prices include GST and are shown before you pay. Payments are processed by Stripe. Where a product is ordered from a third party on your behalf — a council property file, for example — delivery times depend on them. If we cannot deliver what you paid for, we will refund you. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.
Bills, documents, photos and notes you add remain yours. You give us permission to store and process them to run the service for you, and to show them to the people you choose to share them with. You confirm you have the right to upload them.
If you choose to make photos of a property public, or to offer a report you commissioned for resale, you allow us to show them to other visitors on the terms shown when you made that choice.

To the extent the law allows, OwnBetter is not liable for loss arising from information supplied by public registers or providers, from decisions you make using the service, or from anything outside our reasonable control. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Where you use the service for a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply.
You can close your account at any time by writing to [email protected]. We may end or suspend access if these terms are broken, and will tell you why unless the law prevents us. What happens to your information afterwards is set out in our privacy policy.
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the courts of New Zealand have jurisdiction. If any part of them cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. Questions go to [email protected].
